Last week, it emerged that BlackBerry - or rather, TCL, the company that has now assumed responsibility for building and selling BlackBerry-branded devices - would formally announce its new handset at this week"s CES industry expo in Las Vegas.
Today, the company did indeed show off the new handset, but it revealed no useful information about it, including any details of specs, availability or pricing.
The existence of the device has been rumored since July, when the first images and specs emerged along with the handset"s development codename, "Mercury". Despite showing the device today in the flesh at CES, TCL wouldn"t even confirm the real name of the new device.
While the handset it showed today was running Android 7.0 Nougat, TCL also refused to make any comment about plans to upgrade the device to Android 7.1.1, which Google released a month ago.
All we really know is what we can see. Mercury - or whatever TCL eventually ends up calling the thing - will be an Android device with a fixed QWERTY keyboard, along with front and rear cameras CrackBerry noted that TCL did at least give one bit of information away - the spacebar on the keyboard incorporates a fingerprint sensor.
If you want to find out more, you"ll have to wait until Mobile World Congress in late February, where TCL will provide full details about the device.
