Google has published its latest monthly breakdown of platform usage, showing the proportion of active devices running each version of the Android OS.
The data was collected during a seven-day period ending on August 1, and once again, all versions of the OS declined in usage with the exception of the two newest releases (and 2.2 Froyo, which remained at 0.1%).
It"s been ten months since Google originally released Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Over the last few months, its rollout had been doing pretty well, with monthly percentage point increases of 2.9%, 2.6% and, last month, 3.2%.
This month, however, Marshmallow increased its share of active Android devices by just 1.9%, its smallest monthly increase for quite a while. Meanwhile, Google is preparing for the release of its next major OS update, Android 7.0 Nougat, which could arrive as soon as this month.

6.0 | Marshmallow | 23 | 13.3% | 15.2% | 1.9% |
Android 5.1 Lollipop was the only other version to grow over the last month, increasing its platform share by 0.6%. Combined with version 5.0, which decreased in usage by 0.2%, Lollipop accounts for 35.5% of Android devices, widening its gap with 4.4 KitKat, which now stands at 29.2%.
With Marshmallow now at 15.2%, that leaves almost 85% of active Android devices running versions of the OS that are between one and six years old. That stands in stark contrast with Apple, which upgraded 86% of iOS devices to iOS 9 in the ten months since its release.
