In March this year, Apple acquired the magazine reading app, Texture. Apple has now made plans to shut its Windows version of the app down at the end of June. The tech giant informed users of the discontinuation this week via email and a note in the applications. The note just said that the app will stop working and will no longer be in the Microsoft Store after June 30th.
Despite Apple’s bias towards keeping some of its products locked to its own ecosystem, the firm does intend to keep the app available for Android, Amazon Fire, and iOS. The Windows app doesn’t seem to have been updated in a long time and has received bad reviews, which may have left Apple believing that it’s not worth investing the effort to fix it.
In a statement, the Texture developers said:
“Texture is an all-access pass to the world’s best magazines. To keep things working smoothly, older versions of the app sometimes need to be retired. After June 30th, 2018, the Texture Windows app will no longer be available. Your Texture subscription will continue to be available on compatible phones or tablets running iOS or Android and on Fire HD tablets along with ongoing access to all the magazines you have selected as your favorites.”
If you’re going to be affected by the retirement of this app, you’ll have to ensure you’ve got another device that’s compatible to continue using the app. Unfortunately, the app is not available via the web so you’ll need to examine what"s available on the previously mentioned mobile platforms.
