A few weeks after rumors hit the Internet that claimed Microsoft considered a plan to allow consumers to chose putting either Android or Windows Phone on a handset, a Korean company called Bluebird has announced a new device that can run Android 4.2 or a version of Windows.
The company sent out a press release today that talked about the 5-inch ruggedized handset, the BM180. However, their announcement only mentions the device running Windows Embedded 8 Handheld, which is based on the core Windows Phone 8 OS.
Here"s the twist: ZDNet managed to download an online brochure from Bluebird"s website, before it mysteriously shut down, that showed that the BM180 can also run Android 4.2. As you can see in the render above, the only difference between the two devices is the lower buttons.
The product itself is not made for consumers but for businesses who want a mobile handset that can handle activities such as taking payments from credit cards. Bluebird"s press release claims a number of major retailers in the U.S have already signed up to buy the BM180. It"s not yet clear why Bluebird would send out a press release that the BM180 just runs Windows Embedded 8 Handheld while an online brochure from the company shows it can run Android as well.
