The Elder Scrolls Online MMO announced

Today, Bethesda Softworks officially announced what has been rumored for years: The Elder Scrolls Online, a massively multiplayer game set in the company"s hugely popular Elder Scrolls RPG universe. The game is being developed by the company"s in-house Zenimax Online Studios.

The game"s director, Matt Firor, is quoted as saying, "It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years. The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."

Game Informer"s latest print magazine issue will be the first place for more detailed information on the game and the magazine"s website has posted up some teasers about what The Elder Scrolls Online will be like. The game itself will be set 1,000 years before the events of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and will feature a storyline that focuses on the daedric prince Molag Bal. Apparently, he wants to somehow bring the land of Tamriel into his own realm. That can"t be good.

The Elder Scrolls Online will have three player factions and will have solo quests, public dungeons raids and player vs player battles with the three factions. The game is due out sometime in 2013 for the PC and the Mac platforms. You can bet that The Elder Scrolls Online will be front and center at E3 2012 next month.
