A couple of months ago, Android co-founder Andy Rubin introduced the Essential Phone, a handset that has a near bezel-less display and modular accessories that connect to pogo pins on the rear. It was announced later on that Sprint will be the device"s exclusive carrier in the US, while TELUS will sell the device in Canada. And now, it seems that other countries around the world will finally get a chance to snag the smartphone for themselves.
According to a report by the Financial Times, Essential is already working to get the much-awaited phone in Europe and Japan. UK carriers such as EE are reportedly in talks with the company to set a launch date for the device, which is seen to be this year.
Meanwhile, after Essential missed its initial shipping window a few weeks, ago, Niccolo de Masi, chief operating officer of the company, stated that the phone"s release in the US is "imminent." Unfortunately, there is still no specific date provided that buyers can hold on to.
For now, those interested in the Essential Phone can pre-order on the official website. It has a price tag of $699, while adding the 360-degree camera accessory will currently set you back an extra $50 (down from $199).
