The Evil Within 2 gets an official first-person mode

The Evil Within 2 has received a new update today that lets players enjoy the horror title in first-person perspective rather than the default third-person point of view. The free update enables players to switch between the two perspectives via an in-game option.

Shortly after the game"s launch, a console command was found by PC players that enabled them to play the game in first-person, and according to the game"s producer Shinsaku Ohara, this played a part in implementing the feature in an official manner:

We experimented a bit with first-person in the full game, but it was more of an afterthought and a little bit of playing around on our side, since we designed the game in third-person.

Some savvy users figured out a way to activate this mode outside of its intended area, and the reaction to it was pretty positive, so we said, “What the heck. Let’s put it in as a bonus for all platforms.” A lot of players like playing horror games in first-person, so for those who want to see some of the game’s situations through Sebastian’s eyes, it’s a really neat experience.

In addition to the full game, the new perspective is also available to try out in The Evil Within 2"s free trial on all platforms. This should be a great time for fans of the game to have another playthrough with a new perspective. Meanwhile, for those interested in picking up The Evil Within 2, Bethesda is running a 50% discount on Steam as well as on the respective online stores of Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
