Without causing a squabble between iPhone and Android fan bases - neither operating system is perfect. Apple"s iOS touts some great features that unfortunately do not yet exist on any Android handset, while same is also true for Android. However, the line between these two systems is closer than ever before.
The "Eye" by ESTI Inc. is an iPhone case seeking funding on Kickstarter that appears to be taking another route or a somewhat obvious approach to giving smartphone users the best of both worlds - without any jailbreaking or invasive hacking required. The end result is a strange hybrid device which on one side is an iPhone while on the other is an Android device.
There is nothing additional required, as the case itself is essentially an Android phone with a 5-inch AMOLED display on the back. The case shares both the speaker, cameras, and the microphone of Apple"s handset, but otherwise, the case is a standalone device.
In terms of specifications, the Eye will include:
- 5" FHD AMOLED Display
- "Pure Android OS" - Android Nougat 7.1 with Google Play services
- Qi Wireless Charging
- Always on display
- 2,800mAh battery
- 2 SIM card slots
- Expandable up to 256GB
- Metal tag for car mount
- NFC enabled
- Infrared blaster
- 3.5mm headphone Jack
The only card Eye really has to play, and heavily betting its money on, is convenience. Arguably, for business users who have to use both ecosystems, the case may prove helpful. However, for a $189 starting price it is hard to imagine the case is indeed compelling enough to forgo a dedicated Android device as a daily driver.
ESTI Inc. has not shared exact specifications that the case will offer in terms of processing power, but with a launch date set for August 2017 you can expect more details to come out soon.
