Back in March, Fitbit announced the Fitbit Versa, a smartwatch and fitness band with an improved design over last year"s Ionic. Alongside it, the company also unveiled the Ace, a simplified fitness tracker aimed at children.
Today, the Ace is available to purchase through Fitbit"s online store, with a price tag of $99.95. The watch comes in just two colors, "electric blue" and "power purple".
The child-oriented tracker doesn"t have a lot of the smartwatch features of the more expensive relatives, but it does include fitness features such as step counting and activity and sleep tracking. Kids can also compete in "step challenges" with friends, send motivational messages, and more.
The Fitbit app shows them their stats for sleep and activity, but "negative" information such as calorie count isn"t accessible to them. Parents can also use the Fitbit app to keep an eye on their children"s activity and set reminders for both activity and sleep. It"s also possible to set a silent vibrating alarm on the device.
As far as customization goes, the Fitbit Ace offers ten watch faces to choose from, but the device itself only comes in a single color and the band, while replaceable, is only available in the two announced colors, at least for now.
Battery life should go up to five days depending on usage, and the Ace is also "showerproof", so kids won"t have to worry about taking it off as often as most smartwatches. You can purchase it from Fitbit"s website here, which also includes free shipping on orders over $50.
