Today, Google announced its latest handsets, the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL. While a majority of the presentation was not a surprise, thanks to all of the previously leaked information, there was a small detail about the phones that should offer a little more value when it comes to making a purchase decision.
Unlike the previous Pixel and Pixel XL that had two years of OS and three years of security updates, the new Pixel 2s will offer a minimum of three years on both fronts. This means that at a bare minimum, you"ll be getting three years out of these units, and if Google is feeling generous, you could get more. Naturally, not having updates doesn"t mean that they will stop working, but having the latest Android OS can breathe new life into an aging device. We won"t know what the fate of these devices will be three years from now, but this is definitely a good step forward when it comes to providing more support.
The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL can now be pre-ordered from the Google Store starting at $649. Current orders are set to ship in six to seven weeks.
