The Nokia Lumia 1020 gets a price cut

Nokia and Microsoft made headline news across the world with the Lumia 1020 a year ago with its advertised 41MP camera sensor on a smartphone.  When it first launched, purchasing a 1020 would set you back around $649 off-contract with AT&T.  If you"ve been wanting to try out the Lumia 1020 smartphone but haven"t felt the need to throw down that kind of cash, rejoice: the Nokia Lumia 1020 can now be had for $339 off-contract through AT&T with a recent price cut.

Now owned by Microsoft, the Lumia 1020 comes with a dual-core Snapdragon S4+ CPU designed specifically for the 1020 and houses a 4.5" AMOLED screen with a 1280x768 resolution.  The Lumia 1020 comes stock with Windows Phone 8 but can be upgraded to Microsoft"s latest 8.1 phone OS through the Lumia Cyan update.

The new price cut has been made available through Microsoft Store"s own website and includes the white, black, and yellow versions of the 1020.  the deal can be had through some other major online retailers, including Amazon.  The price drop seems to be permanent as no special promotions are advertised that would suggest an eventual end to the $339 price point.

Why the price is being dropped is unknown, but since the phone launched in the US back in August of 2013 it would seem that age is a major player.  The price drop could also be attributed to Microsoft"s acknowledgment that a Lumia 1020 successor is in the pipeline.  What do our readers think of the price adjustment?  Do you think a 1020 follow up is close to being revealed?
