The OnePlus 9 series is only certified for U.S. 5G on T-Mobile

Users visibly confused about why their phone only gets 4G LTE

Today, OnePlus unveiled the OnePlus 9 series, and if you"re a fan of the company, it"s a good day. Both the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro have 120Hz displays, although the latter is a new LTPO screen that can change between 1Hz and 120Hz. And of course, the big new feature is better photography, thanks to a partnership with Hasselblad.

5G is standard too, as is the case with any Snapdragon 888 device, but unfortunately, it"s only going to work on T-Mobile if you"re in the U.S., at least for now. Even if you buy the unlocked variant of the device, it"s going to by a 4G LTE phone on Verizon or AT&T.

The reason is pretty much that OnePlus didn"t bother to get the phones certified. As far as band support goes, they both support Verizon"s n40 band for sub6 5G, while only the OnePlus 9 Pro supports mmWave, unsurprisingly. Strangely, according to the spec sheet, only the OnePlus 9 supports AT&T"s n5 band, so even if a certification comes along later, only the non-Pro model will ever support AT&T 5G.

There seems to be some hope for Verizon customers though. While 5G support on Verizon won"t be available at launch, OnePlus did say that it"s going to continue to work with the carrier in hopes to get both devices certified.
