The PlayStation Network has been suffering from outages late on Sunday due to a DDOS attack. The attack, which hacker group Lizard Squad claim responsibility for, started earlier in the morning and has continued throughout the day. Unlike the 2011 hack on the PlayStation Network, no personal information has been accessed according to the company.
"Like other major networks around the world, the PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network have been impacted by an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic.
Although this has impacted your ability to access our network and enjoy our services, no personal information has been accessed.
We will continue to work towards fixing this issue and hope to have our services up and running as soon as possible.”
It seems that the PlayStation Network isn’t the only service being attacked either, with online games Path of Exile, World of Warcraft and League of Legends all being targeted today, although those services have all be restored.
Earlier, the Xbox 360 had a service disruption for connecting to Xbox Live but it is unclear if the two are related.
PlayStation Network services are gradually being restored, though gamers can expect the service levels to fluctuate over the next few hours.
