The six original Mega Man games are coming to iOS and Android next month

Capcom announced today that it will be releasing the original six Mega Man games for iOS and Android in early January. Each of the six titles will be priced at $1.99.

There are a number of ways for you to play the games right now on various consoles. Mega Man: Legacy Collection offers the entire suite in one package for the Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo 3DS, and PC. You can also play Mega Man 2 on the newly released but rare NES Classic Edition, or download the games through the Virtual Console on a Wii.

But this will be the first time that any of the games will be made available on mobile devices. Adapting classic games to another platform is a different route than some others have taken, such as Nintendo, which developed an entirely new Super Mario game for phones and tablets, charged $9.99 for it, and is receiving harsh criticism.

Here are the games being released, and their description (yes, Capcom has managed to come up with six different descriptions for these remarkably similar games):

  • Mega Man® Mobile - The evil Dr. Wily must be stopped in this classic action platformer, the original Mega Man!

  • Mega Man® 2 Mobile - Dr. Wily resurfaces to threaten the world again! Only Mega Man can stand in his way.

  • Mega Man® 3 Mobile - Fight berserk robots on uncharted planets. Mega Man must set a course for space to resolve this mysterious crisis.

  • Mega Man® 4 Mobile - A year has passed since Mega Man"s battle in space. A new enemy appears -- Dr. Cossack.

  • Mega Man® 5 Mobile - Manic robots cause chaos in the city. How is Proto Man involved? Only Mega Man can find out!

  • Mega Man® 6 Mobile - The Global Robot Alliance is formed, but this newfound peace is threatened by a new foe -- the enigmatic Mr. X!
