It was almost two years ago that Microsoft initially announced the UWP Community Toolkit, an open-source project to enable developers to collaborate and contribute new features on top of the Windows 10 SDK. The toolkit offers features that simplify the app development process by facilitating tasks such as linking to external services such as Twitter.
Since its initial release, the toolkit has seen a large number of updates, some of which were quite significant in terms of new features. Today, Microsoft is announcing that the toolkit is due for an update towards the end of May, which will bring along a new name: Windows Community Toolkit.
The announcement was made through a blog post, where the company talks about all the improvements that have been made to the toolkit since the initial release thanks to feedback from the developer community and promises more to come. These improvements are being made so that the tool can be used by as many Windows developers as possible, and the new name is meant to be a reflection of the broader audience Microsoft wants to target.
The company didn"t announce what new features would be coming alongside the new name, but Windows Community Toolkit will be the official name with the next update to the toolkit, which is slated for the end of May. NuGet packages will be made available in time for Microsoft"s Build event next week, but you can explore all the latest features by visiting the project"s GitHub page.
