Last year, CD Projekt RED revealed it was working on a next-generation version of its hit RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, though a release window was absent. Today during the first-ever WitcherCon event, the studio revealed that the upgrade will land later this year, and it will include some bonuses inspired by The Witcher Netflix series. The studio also showed off the updated cover art, seen above.
The DLC seems to be additional items that are being brought over from the show and not expansion-sized features. They may be similar to some of the free DLC the RPG received in the months after its launch back in 2015 such as alternate looks for side characters and new Gwent cards, as well as hairstyles and armor sets for Geralt.
More information regarding these mysterious new items, and hopefully about the upgrade itself, will be coming soon according to the studio.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen version is coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 sometime later this year containing the base game, the Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone expansions, and DLCs, plus a range of visual improvements that include ray tracing support. Owners of the game"s previous-generation version will receive the new edition for free.
Meanwhile, for those who are looking forward to the TV series" return, Netflix announced today at WitcherCon that The Witcher second season will begin airing on December 17.
