Today CD Projekt RED announced that its hugely popular RPG from 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, is getting an upgrade in the form of a "next generation edition." The studio says it will be a whole new standalone release, and although the promotion"s image only lists consoles, it will be coming to PC as well, in addition to Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Unfortunately, a release date was not announced today.
This version is being "developed to take advantage of the most powerful gaming hardware" according to the studio, coming with "a range of visual and technical improvements." These will include ray tracing support as well as faster loading times. The full base game, the two expansions - Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone -, plus all other extra content will be a part of the package.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next generation edition will be made available as a standalone purchase and a free upgrade to all current owners of the fantasy title across all platforms. CD Projekt RED is utilizing a similar upgrade tactic for its upcoming RPG Cyberpunk 2077, offering current-generation owners access to the next-generation edition when it becomes available, for free.
