Today, Microsoft"s Phil Spencer published a blog post about how gamers are the center of the company"s vision. Along with announcing that Project xCloud will be included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate this September, the blog post also confirmed that the Xbox Series X will support all of the games playable on the Xbox One series, except for those requiring the Kinect camera.
The Kinect has a long history, but the trouble started when it was bundled with the original Xbox One. The idea was that you could use voice commands to control the console, but it seemed as though fans would rather have the accessory unbundled and pay $100 less for the console. That"s exactly what happened.
Then came the Xbox One S in 2016, and it actually didn"t have a port for the Kinect. Microsoft ended up releasing a USB Type-A adapter that allowed people to still use it, and the adapter was offered for free to those that had the peripheral. In October 2017, Microsoft killed off the Kinect completely.
It"s no surprise then, that the Xbox Series X won"t support the legacy accessory. And naturally, that means that games requiring it won"t work either.
