MSNBC discusses the latest ID creation Doom III and has an interview with John Carmack.
Nothing at this year"s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) prepared spectators for Doom III, the latest first-person perspective shooter from id Software. The jump from Quake III to Doom III is no incremental jump; it is a revolution.
Doom III was shown in a small theater located at the back of the Activision booth. Huge lines formed behind the booth. People complained about having to wait as long as two hours to see the brief demonstration; but wait they did.
Doom III was worth the wait. Judging by the quality of the graphics on the screen, the sheer intelligence of its monsters, or the fear factor it creates, Doom III sets new standards for gaming.
"You"re not going to know where there is a safe piece of a wall. If you backed up to a certain kind of wall in the old games, you knew that nothing was going to happen because the wall was obviously part of the environment. That level of security is not going to be there with Doom III because the entire world can change and you will not be in command of your environment."
"I told everyone that I was going to demonstrate Doom III on the best hardware, and there has been no collusion or kickbacks or anything like that going on. Our objective is the technical merit."
"The new ATI card was clearly superior. I don"t want to ding NVidia for anything because NVidia has done everything they possibly could; but in every test we ran, ATI was faster."
