It appears that some folks are having problems with their Samsung Galaxy S8 when it comes to the camera focusing. Apparently, the camera will attempt to focus but will never actually do so. This problem applies to the standard camera app and also third-party apps that utilize the camera like Snapchat.
According to a Samsung support representative, there could be a solution to the problem. The rep has chimed in on the forums offering up the steps below, as an attempt to correct the problem. As you can see, most of these are your standard troubleshooting steps, but the one that sticks out is the request to lightly tap the back of the phone or give it a small shake. While it seems weird, the light jostle could knock loose the sensor inside, reengaging proper focusing.
According to the support rep post, check the following:
- Are all your Apps are up to date? You have 2 places that you need to look, the Google Play Store and Galaxy App store. Make sure you to go to both App Store apps and check My Apps. Make sure there is no app that needs updating.
- Is your phone operating system up to date? Go to Settings > About phone and check for software update. Make sure you have the latest phone software.
- Give a gentle tap to the back of your phone or give it a small shake. Nothing violent, it won"t take much.
- Clear Application caches and Application data. Instructions are HERE.
- Clear phone cache. Instructions are HERE.
If all of the above fails, affected users are urged to contact support as their handset might be defective.
