In a bid to reduce the unnecessary notification clutter, the Google Play app no longer shows notifications after app updates have been installed. While this may not be a considerable factor for many users, it is expected that some people would still prefer to be notified after the successful installation of apps on their phones. Reddit user u/farmerbb decided to take the matter into his hands and wrote an app to restore Google Play"s missing app update notifications.
AppNotifier, which is ad-free and open-source, remedies the issue by sending similar notifications to the ones sent by the Google Play app when apps were updated earlier. Since Google Play does not send these notifications anymore, the app listens for apps installs and updates, triggering a notification when it detects them. If users do not install all their apps from the Google Play Store, there is also an option to receive notifications for sideloaded apps.
