It has been a bit of strange road for the OnePlus 5T, but after a month of teasing, it is finally here. The firm unveiled the device at an event in New York and while there weren"t any surprises when it came to its specifications or looks, the firm did manage to keep the price an unknown factor leading up to its big day.
Although the handset was the main feature of the event, the firm did discuss the process of what it takes to make a handset. It went over sourcing quality parts, its community, creating a version of Android that will be embraced, and more. The OnePlus 5T will feature a new and much sleeker design, made of metal and glass, and also makes way for a near bezel-less display. This is quite different from the look of the OnePlus 5 that featured large bezels above and below the screen.
As for specifications, the handset will offer:
- 6-inch 18:9 AMOLED display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 835
- 6GB or 8GB RAM
- 64GB or 128GB internal storage
-
20MP + 16MP camera
-
3,300 mAh battery with Dash Charge
-
Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB Type-C
While an 18:9 display isn"t anything new, the firm did tout that it would function better in certain scenarios thanks to contrast optimizations that would occur automatically. The firm also debuted Face Unlock, a system that uses facial recognition to keep your phone secure and makes unlocking it without the need to use the fingerprint reader. Although convenient, the company did state that it could not be used with apps that store sensitive information.
Not to be complacent, OnePlus has also made improvements to its camera, giving it the ability to shoot better photos in low light, better portraits, and more. Although the OnePlus 5T won"t be on sale today, you will be able to order the device on November 21 with it starting at $499 for the 64GB version, and $559 for the 128GB variant.
