This week, console and PC gamers can look forward to a long awaited first person shooter finally coming out along with the newest version of a long running off-road racing series that"s also trying out a new pricing model. There"s also the latest Lego-based movie adaptation to look forward to playing this week.
Brink - Announced two years ago just before E3 2009, this sci-fi themed first person shooter finally hits stores for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms. The game comes from UK-based Splash Damage who previously developed titles for id Software like the free Wolfenstein Enemy Territory and more recently Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. This is Splash Damage"s first original IP, published by Bethesda Softworks, and is set on a future Earth which has been flooded over while two factions in the game fight over a floating city called The Ark. The team-based shooter has lots of customization features along with an easy-to-use movement system and more. The PC version will feature full dedicated server support.
MX Vs ATV Alive - THQ"s newest game in the off-road racing series heads to stores this week for the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms (a PC versions has also been announced but no specific release date has been revealed). Perhaps more interesting than the game itself is its business model. THQ will sell the game for just $40 compared to the normal price of $50 or $60 for AAA console games. THQ hopes to make up the difference by offering a regular series of paid DLC packs that will expand the original game"s content.
Other games due out this week include Lego Pirates of the Caribbean, the latest Lego-themed movie adaptation; the PC exclusive co-op themed action game The First Templar; Virtua Tennis 4, the latest game in Sega"s pro tennis sports game series; and Hydrophobia Prophecy, a revamped downloadable PC version of the sci-fi action game that was first released several months ago for the Xbox 360 console.
