Gamers who love first person shooters have been awaiting the release of Battlefield 3 for months and this week it becomes a reality for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms. Developer Digital Illusions and publisher Electronic Arts brings us this modern military action story combined with a massive 64 player multiplayer mode. It"s all under DICE"s new Frostbite 2 engine which looks spectacular. PC owners are crossing their fingers that their version of the game won"t be quite as buggy as the recent open beta build.
While Battlefield 3"s release is definitely the highlight of this week"s new games, there are some other titles that are coming out in the next seven days. Xbox 360 owners get two new Kinect exclusive titles that are sequels to Kinect launch games from 2010. One is Dance Central 2, the next game in Harmonix"s motion controller dance game series. The other is Kinect Sports Season 2 from developer Rare that adds six new games to the series including American football and baseball.
Playstation 3 owners get something cool to download this week on the Playstation Network: Infamous: Festival of Blood, a stand alone open world action game from developer Sucker Punch. The game takes Cole McGrath from Infamous 2 and basically turns him into a vampire in this Halloween themed game. It sounds cool and the price is even better; it"s just $10 for a game that could be sold in retail stores for a much higher price.
There"s a bunch of downloadable games due out this week for the PC including the medieval RTS game Stronghold 3, the space strategy game Sword of the Stars II, the horror themed shooter Haunted: Hell"s Reach, and two games that have been delayed until this week: Renegade Ops and Dead Rising 2: Off The Record.
