THQ has decided to cancel development of yet another of its previously announced games. In its financial conference call for the second quarter of 2012, the publisher admitted that it has stopped development of InSane, a horror-themed title from its Volition development studio.
GamesIndustry.biz reports that recently named THQ president Jason Rubin confirmed the cancellation of the game, which was supposed to have the involvement of famed movie director Guillermo del Toro. The rights to the InSane IP have now reverted to del Toro.
This is just the latest in a string of changes for THQ, which have included the company giving up the publishing rights to Devil"s Third and cancelling a Saints Row: The Third stand alone expansion pack in favor of a full fledged game in the series for release in 2013.
THQ has also announced it will no longer release any Facebook-based casual games or games made for mobile phones.
THQ"s next game is Darksiders II, which will be released for the PC later in August. The company has several games planned for the PC platform in 2013, including Company of Heroes 2, South Park: The Stick of Truth, Metro: Last Light, Homefront 2 (developed by Crytek) and an unnamed shooter developed by Turtle Rock Studios, who were the main team behind the first Left 4 Dead game.
