Following a whole host of leaks over the last few weeks, THQ Nordic announced today a Darksiders spin-off that is going in a whole different direction from the trilogy. Titled Darksiders Genesis, the game is described as a "top-down action adventure," a first for the series. Its announcement trailer can be seen below.
The Darksiders III architects aren"t involved in this spin-off as Airship Syndicate is taking the reigns as the developer. This studio has previously worked with THQ Nordic to release the well-received turn-based RPG Battle Chasers: Nightwar.
In Genesis, we will be playing as the fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse, Strife, hunting down master demons in Hell that are concocting a conspiracy under Lucifer"s orders. The story is set before the events of the Darksiders apocalypse, acting as a prequel to the action series. According to the developer, the game will have "intense combat, exploration, puzzle-solving, epic boss battles and serpent holes from heaven to hell."
Darksiders: Genesis will be available on PC (via Steam), Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, as well as through Google"s new Stadia streaming service. A release date hasn"t been announced just yet.
