Last month, Three announced that it will begin the roll out of its 5G network in London from next month before expanding to 25 towns and cities across the UK before the end of the year. The company has now promised that there will be no speed caps and that contracts, SIM only, and PAYG mobile plans will be available at no extra cost. SIM only plans with unlimited 5G data will start at £20 per month.
Discussing the news, the CEO at Three, Dave Dyson said:
“Three is leading the way with 5G, by providing our customers with unlimited data and the fastest speeds. Our customers will be able to enjoy and explore a full 5G experience, at the same cost as 4G.
The forthcoming months are going to be game-changing and with our unrestricted plans, we are looking forward to unleashing the full potential of 5G to all.”
With 5G being so fast, Three believes that unlimited data is a requirement for people to enjoy the technology’s full capabilities. It pointed out that it’s the only network in the country which offers “a ‘true’ 5G experience” due to its 100MHz of contiguous spectrum, which is an ITU Global standard requirement to provide “a full 5G experience”.
Aside from announcing near-term plans for 5G, the company also stated that it plans to have 80% of its network covered by 5G within three years. While those with 5G will see the biggest speed increases, even those still running devices with 4G or 3G will see average data speeds increase by 50% as Three adds more capacity to its network.
Similarly to Sky Mobile, Three has begun selling the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G today and has plans to launch the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G in the coming month.
