Russell Adams, over at The Wall Street Journal, is reporting that Apple and Time Inc. have now reached an agreement which will allow all United States subscribers of print editions to get a same copy on their iPad devices, a saving around $60 per year ($4.99 per issue). Starting today, any user who subscribes to Sports Illustrated, Time or Fortune magazines will be able to access the digital version by using the iPad applications which will check subscription status and allow the digital version to be viewed.
The deal comes as Time Warner Inc. has started looking for candidates to replace Jack Griffin who was fired a few months ago for a "clash of styles". Since then, the company has been headed up by a three man team which has been trying to find new ways of getting Time Inc. profits back to former levels after seeing a long period of low revenues.
According to the article, Analysts are expecting Time Warner to show their first quarter results on Wednesday which are, more than likely, going to show a flat revenue line despite a $900m cut of costs over the last three years. While this paper-to-digital deal has been done before with People Magazine, this new plan appears to be a win for all parties concerned; Apple may obtain more iPad users and Time Inc. may see more people taking up the offer which will help the company"s profits.
