TiVo, the pioneer of digital recording service and smart-guide searching now becomes a pioneer in the advertising market by announcinig on Monday a new free service to all subscribers with an active TiVo account: ordering Domino"s pizza through your TV.
How does this work? Basically when a Domino"s ad runs, the user will be given the "I want it" option which will then prompt you to manually enter a delivery address; or for the more technologically endued, you can setup a Dominos.com account and link it to your TiVo box. Sadly, TiVo said that you will still have to pay cash at the door.
"Joining forces with Domino"s Pizza creates an effective marketing and commerce tool for Domino"s while enhancing and further distinguishing TiVo as the ultimate way to watch TV with a closed-loop advertising experience," said Karen Bressner, senior vice president of advertising sales for TiVo.
That"s right Karen, who needs a larger HD content selection, more flexible recording devices or even more affordable prices - people want to order pizza, and we want to do it now.
"This is the first time in history that the "on-demand" generation will be able to fully experience couch commerce by ordering pizza directly through their television set," said Rob Weisberg, Domino"s vice president of marketing. "You"ll see a television ad for Domino"s, and you"ll click, "I want it" through your remote. In about 30 minutes, your pizza will show up at your door."
This is not a new, nor revolutionary, use of TiVo, since you could already order Fandango tickets through your TV and have them waiting for you at the cinema. Here"s a suggestion for you TiVo: call up QvC or any other infomercial shopping service and add automatic credit card payments, it is time that somebody fully tapped into the impulse-buying couch-potato market.
