To upgrade to the next Windows 10 build, make sure you have KB 3025380 installed

Microsoft has said that if you are running Windows 10 build 9879, you will need to install KB 3025380 to make sure that your machine will receive the next version of the OS.

The good news here is that as long as you are running Windows Update on a frequent basis, you should already have this patch installed as it was released in December. So, unless you have been actively avoiding Windows patches, your machine should be ready for the next Windows 10 release.

Microsoft has not announced a date for when the next build will be released, aside from the vague "in the next week" but seeing that they are now talking about the requirements for the next build, we suspect the release is going to happen very soon.

For those of you who are on Windows 7/8 and want to upgrade to the latest build of Windows 10, you can obtain it through Windows Update if you install this application that Microsoft previously released.

If you want a preview of what to expect for the next Windows 10 release, you can check out our build 9924 gallery here. As for the build number of the next release, it will likely be 9926.
