Top executive team leaves Twitter as company struggles

Twitter has been going through a rough patch recently with the company struggling to expand its user base, attract advertisers, launch new products and remain relevant in an ever-changing world of social interactions. And today’s news will probably do little to help the company’s public image.

Twitter is losing many of its top executives as early as today with the company product, engineering and media heads departing for other companies. The news was originally broken by Recode and later confirmed by Jack Dorsey himself, Twitter’s founder and CEO. According to his tweet, Katie Jacobs Stanton, Kevin Weil and Alex Roetter will depart from Twitter. Also departing will be the head of Vine, Jason Toff, who’s going over to Google to work on VR projects.

Dorsey explained that the departure of these top-level executives was voluntary, but seeing as so many of them occupied key positions, the ripples that these moves will cause are likely to be felt for a long time.

Meanwhile the company, whose share price dropped to a new low last week while it experienced technical difficulties, is looking to bring in new board members and a new head of PR in the form of a female executive from a “big brand”.

Whether these changes will lead to better exposure for the company or additional users, remains to be seen, but so far Twitter seems poised to remain less popular than Facebook and other competitors.
