Toshiba Australia launches the new Tecra 9000

Toshiba, mobile computing innovator and industry leader, has face lifted the notebook as we know it, and fully combined form and function with the launch of a new design for its Tecra® range. With the introduction of the new Intel® 830M chipset with 133MHz Front Side Bus (FSB), a ground-breaking design was required to minimise weight and heat levels, and maximise battery power. All this places the Tecra 9000 in pole position for corporate buyers seeking long life in a cool design.

A New Era in Notebook Design & Powerful Technology

The new design was required in order to accommodate the Intel® Pentium® III Processor-M and Intel 830M chipset. Toshiba has complemented these advances in chip technology with its own improvements to give greater mobile computing power to users.

According to Sean Casey, Intel Architecture Platform Marketing, Intel Australia, the mobile market is actually growing faster than the desktop market, "More and more people are choosing to adopt mobile computing environments. Intel introduced the new line of Intel® Pentium® III Processor-M primarily to keep pace with this market demand," he says.

"As a market innovator, Toshiba has embraced the possibilities of our Pentium III Processor-M and 830M chipset with its own market leading technology and fresh designs, proving that if we give them an inch, Toshiba will take mobile computing a mile."

"We"ve had to throw our old notebook designs in the bin and return to the drawing board for this one," said Laurie White, Toshiba Australia"s Product Marketing Manager. "We"ve had to re-design the workings of the notebook to accommodate this new chip set, and develop a brand new heat-management system to keep the notebook from overheating. Not only have we kept the weight down, but we"ve even shaved 10% off its predecessor, the Tecra 8200, and we"ve increased battery power by 15%."

A highlight in respect to new performance features is Intel"s new 830M chipset 133MHz Front Side Bus, up from 100Mhz; it is the first FSB increase in two years. It not only turbo-charges personal computing but places massive pressure inside the notebook in terms of battery life, weight and heat management. Toshiba has successfully integrated the new powerful Bus system (which drives data between the CPU, RAM and the hard drive) within the chassis.

At 2.4kg, the Tecra 9000 will astound its competitors currently assembling new 133MHz FSB notebooks, who are finding it extremely difficult to keep within 4kg thanks to industry leading research and design capabilities. Toshiba has been able to successfully deliver the powerful chip set within a lightweight design.

Specifications, availability & pricing

The new range of Tecra notebooks are currently available in Australia. Prices are starting from $6300 AUD. The rest of the Toshiba Notebook range prices has been drop by almost 20% making Toshiba more competitive.
