In June, Toshiba revealed a prototype for a Windows 8 notebook-tablet hybrid at Computex. Today, the company officially announced that it will turn that prototype into a full fledged consumer product.
Maximum PC reports that Toshiba has branded the product as the Satellite U925t Ultrabook. While it can be used as a touch screen tablet, the physical keyboard also slides out for users who need to touch something a little more sturdy.
The Ultrabook will have an Intel Core i5 processor inside, along with a 128 GB SSD, two USB 3.0 ports, a HDMI port, two cameras (front and rear) and a media card reader. The keyboard has an LED backlight and a CkickPad with Windows 8 gesture support While the Satellite U925t will be released when Windows 8 launches on October 26th, there"s no word yet on what it will cost.
Toshiba also showed off a Windows 8 prototype device with a detachable keyboard back in June, but there"s no word on when, or even if, that product will be launched. While Toshiba was originally planning to launch a Windows RT-based device sometime this year, the company recently announced that those plans have been pushed back "due to delayed components".
