Sega has now confirmed what we have previously reported as a rumor; the publisher is indeed going to release Total War: Rome II, the sequel to the acclaimed historical RTS game from developer The Creative Assembly. The PC exclusive game will be released sometime in 2013.
Sega didn"t go into many details about gameplay in today"s press release. It did say that the sequel would continue the Total War"s gameplay style of combining a turn-based campaign with real time battles. It added:
Total War: Rome II will sink players into the dangerous political machinations of Rome’s senate, while asking them to struggle with family dilemmas and question the loyalty of ‘friends’ and allies. Leading the greatest army ever seen into battle will be just one challenge players will face at the head of the world’s first superpower.
The original Rome: Total War was the third game in the Total War franchise. It was first released in 2004 by publisher Activision, before The Creative Assembly was acquired by Sega. The game later received two expansion packs (Barbarian Invasion and Alexander) and received high praised from reviews at the time. The last game in the entire franchise was Total War: Shogun 2, which came out in 2011.
