Pokémon GO brought the fictional creatures to smartphone users back in 2016, but the experience has its fair share of shortcomings compared to more traditional offerings in the franchise. Among them is a battle system that allows players to face off against each other, a flaw which was only partly addressed with the introduction of Gyms sometime after the game launched.
Now, it seems like true one-on-one battles are finally coming to the mobile game in the near future, according to an announcement made by the official Twitter page for the title.
The news is very short on details, with no other information being given other than that it"s coming "soon". Battles in Pokémon GO are significantly simplified compared to titles such as Pokémon Let"s GoI, and even more so compared to previous entries in the franchise. Long-standing fans have expressed concerns over the current battle system, saying that it will need to see significant changes in order to be suitable for real-time fights.
It remains to be seen what changes, if any, Niantic will make to the title in order to accommodate the newly-announced feature, but we shouldn"t have to wait much longer to find out. For now, fans can at least celebrate the fact that the feature is at least making its debut in some way.
