Turing says its new phone will have dual Snapdragon 830s, 60MP cam, 12GB RAM, 512GB storage

Turing Robotics Industries (TRI) has earned itself a bit of a reputation for over-promising and under-delivering, with its Turing Phone finally shipping in July, following months of delays and an unexpected pivot from Android to Jolla"s Sailfish OS.

So you might well be slightly skeptical about what Turing is promising for its next smartphone - particularly when you see its list of specs.

As Android Police reports, TRI chief executive (and "chief architect") Steve Chao described "The Outer Blueprint" in a recent email newsletter, referring to it as "a leading edge program to realize the next generation of mobile devices". He said:

TRI"s research into AI goes further into deep learning and we"re interested in knowing how machines can be more beneficial to us. TRI foresees a new machine with far more computing power to serve our daily needs when we need them the most, thus we"ve dreamed up and have begun development of what we call a "perfectly designed device."

Referring to the device as the Turing Phone Cadenza, here"s what the company is promising on its spec sheet:

  • 5.8-inch display with Quad HD (2560x1440px) resolution
  • Dual (!) Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 SoCs
  • 12GB RAM (6GB LPDDR4X x 2)
  • 512GB onboard storage + two microSD card slots (up to 256GB each)
  • 60MP "quad rear camera" with "Triplet Lens / T1.2" and "iMAX 6K"
  • 20MP "dual front camera"
  • WiGig support
  • "Advanced AI Voice-Authenticated Power On/Off"
  • 2400mAh Graphene Supercapacitor Battery + 1600mAh Li-Ion Hydrogen Fuelcell (!)
  • Graphene Oxide composite bodywork with Liquid Metal 2.0 Structural Frame
  • Quad Nano-SIM support
  • Qualcomm Bluetooth aptX audio
  • Marshall London Global Equalizer

Turing says the Cadenza will run on "Swordfish OS" - a spin-off of Sailfish - with deep learning artificial intelligence capabilities:

  • Running Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP)
  • Long Short-Term Memory Network (LSTM)
  • Differential Privacy

Chao added:

TRI is able to pivot efficiently and create something as extraordinary as the Turing Phone Cadenza. It is our belief that we can disrupt the status quo by bringing the Turing Phone Cadenza from the future to the present.

TRI says that the Turing Phone Cadenza has an expected release date of sometime in 2017.
