TweakXP attacked as spyware, unfounded

Users have attacked TweakXP as spyware here on Neowin and now also over at 3dwin.de, We have always said that TweakXP DOES NOT contain spyware and have close relations to the authors over at Totalidea Software who have told us on more than one occasion that the flames where totally unfounded.

Phone Home? - It was stated that with each restart of TweakXP it "Phones home", at least with our current available version this is this not the case, whether it could have been with older versions is beyond us.

On 2 computers the Shareware version of TweakXP was started 80 times, the system times adjusted, the user accounts were modified, to nothing. This was monitored with Atguard, a 100% reliable Tool for the monitoring of the packets.

TweakXP is naturally not completely uncoupled of the Internet, it uses the included Ad-blocker, or the calibration of the system time with an atomic time server, this receives data, nothing is transmitted.

Win.com, changed? - Also the Win.ini and Win.com files remained unchanged with installation and un-installation of TweakXP. To say that Win.ini or Win.com is modified even by a few bytes is totally false.

Registry, hidden keys? - TweakXP also optimizes your internet connection and therefore also makes changes in your registry, this is required of all Tweak programs, the only key found in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE is the key that monitors the amount of times the program is started (50 times max allowed for Shareware versions) this is not un-common in trialware programs.

We can recommend this software without reservation to everyone, we would even like to stress that this tool is paramount in that it really does clean out itself from the registry when uninstalled (something that cannot be said of most software)

Thanks to 3dwin.de of which this report is for the most part translated from German and to Stefan Kuske, Managing Director of Totalidea Software You can find the latest version of TweakXP in our Software news section
