There"s no shortage of Twitter clients out there, but among power users, many still favor Twitter"s own TweetDeck. The official TweetDeck app for Windows was discontinued last year, but it remains available as a web app in the browser.
But one alternative - which is available on both Windows and Mac - is Tweeten, which builds on TweetDeck, and takes it to a whole new level. The standalone Tweeten client includes numerous additional features that aren"t available on TweetDeck, and today, a major new version has arrived.
Tweeten has been "completely rewritten from the ground up" for its latest version, promising significant improvements in performance and stability.
On top of that, it also has a new look, as its developer, Mehedi Hassan, pointed out: "The new design means Tweeten looks incredible for light theme users, and if you"ve been a fan of our dark theme, the new Tweeten will make you like it even more."
The improvements go beyond just a speed boost and a lick of paint, though; there are also new features that aim to please those discerning power users. For example, you"ll find a new emoji picker:
...along with improvements for adding GIFs in tweets, as Mehedi explained:
We’re innovating a new GIF Zoom feature which lets you get a much better view for GIFs. It’s extremely hard to get all the details in a GIF on Twitter, but the new GIF Zoom feature built into Tweeten lets you get all the details without hurting your eyeballs.
There’s also a new Download GIF feature which lets you download GIFs on tweets while you do other things on Tweeten and the new option to automatically pause GIFs will make it much easier for you to focus on your work. We’re also working on a new GIF Search feature, which will be coming later this Summer.
You"ll also be able to add images to your tweets and direct messages directly from the clipboard. There are more customization options too, with a redesigned Settings center, and users can even use custom CSS to further tweak the look and functionality of the app.
Owners of the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar are getting some extra love in the latest version of Tweeten as well, with integrated support for the "the most important shortcuts" in the app. And on both Mac and Windows, there"s an overhauled auto-update system, which includes background installation of hotfixes without users needing to do anything.
Mehedi said that he has more "exciting things planned for the future of Tweeten", which will roll out in the coming months. However, today"s release is the first edition not to support 32-bit Windows PCs.
The new version of Tweeten is available to download for Windows and Mac from here, and an update to the Windows Store app should be available today. A Chrome extension is also coming later this year.
