In late 2018, Twitch announced a karaoke live-streaming feature called Twitch Sings at TwitchCon 2018. This was part of the video-streaming platform"s initiative to help its streamers "grow, connect, and thrive". Following the initial announcement, the musical game was launched roughly six months later in April 2019.
Today a message posted by the Amazon-owned gaming website came to light, revealing that the year-old karaoke service is going to be shut down. Twitch will start deleting Twitch Sings content from December 1, 2020, onwards. This includes videos, clips, and highlights. By January next year, everything else leftover will be removed as well.
Speaking about its decision to scrap the free-to-play musical game, Twitch"s official statement read:
"As we look to the future, we have decided to invest in broader tools and services that will help support and grow the entire music community on Twitch. Because of this, we have made the difficult decision to close Twitch Sings on January 1, 2021."
As for the game itself, Twitch Sings will no longer be available to play on January 1, 2021. Streamers have been advised to download all content that they wish to keep before December.
