Twitter"s status page has been updated with the following message: "Most users are experiencing issues accessing Twitter on web and mobile apps. We’re looking into it." As usual, the company did not offer any details on what might be wrong and how long the outage might last. Naturally, we will update this post when Twitter issues an update and/or services are back to normal.
Update: Twitter seems to be back up and running again. So far there"s no official word on what happened to the service.
Update 2: Twitter has now issued an official statement on what happened and confirmed that the service was down for about 46 minutes:
During a planned deploy in one of our core services, we experienced unexpected complications that made Twitter unavailable for many users starting at 11:01am. We rolled back the change as soon as we identified the issue and began a controlled recovery to ensure stability of other parts of the service. The site was fully recovered by 11:47am PDT. We apologize for the inconvenience.
The outage was one of the longest for Twitter in some time. The last time the service had such lengthy issues was in January 2013.
