Twitter finally adds night mode to its Progressive Web App

Twitter today added a bunch of new features to its Progressive Web App (PWA), bringing one of the most requested features, ‘Night Mode’, to the app. Since it is a PWA, and the changes are made at the back-end, the app does not have to be updated via the store by users. The update seems to be rolling out gradually.

In addition to night mode, other features that have been added include real-time updates on tweet replies, retweets and counts, and an updated tweet compose box that helps move more easily across the timeline and the ‘compose tweet’ box.

We are rolling out the following features to https://t.co/AIUgyCj4rs, Twitter Lite, and Twitter for Windows to provide more consistency across platforms. See what’s new. ?

✔️ night mode
✔️ real time updates on reply, Retweet, and like counts
✔️ updated Tweet compose box

Night mode is a welcome addition for those who are accustomed to using Twitter during the night or in dimly lit areas, where the bright UI of the app would strain the eyes and make for a not-so-pleasant experience. These additions bring further feature parity with the web version and apps on other platforms. The announcement comes on the heels of another disclosure by the micro-blogging site that it is killing its apps for Xbox One, Roku and Android TV.

It looks like the update is rolling out gradually, and should show up soon enough if it hasn"t yet on your device.
