Twitter finally announces that its new, longer tweets are live

Back in May, Twitter announced some long-awaited changes to its social network. Media attachments, Quote Tweets, and replies would no longer count toward the 140-character limit. As we reported last week, the company is rolling out some of those new features today.

Say more about what"s happening! Rolling out now: photos, videos, GIFs, polls, and Quote Tweets no longer count toward your 140 characters. pic.twitter.com/I9pUC0NdZC

As you can see, today"s news only refers to media attachments, polls, and Quote Tweets. Usernames in replies still seem to count toward your character limit.

The good news is that the new features should be live now. If you head over to Twitter and add an image to a tweet, you should find that you can add a full 140 characters.

Of course, the feature that everyone seems to want is the one that wasn"t included in May"s announcement: an edit button. If you tweet something that you want to change, your only option currently is to delete it and start over. For now, we"ll just have to settle for more reasonable character limits.
