Twitter is going dark on the desktop

Dark or "night" modes have become increasingly common in apps, and even in operating systems, in recent years. Some major websites - such as YouTube, for example - have also begun implementing their own nocturnal themes.

Just over a year ago, Twitter introduced a new dark mode for its mobile apps, making them a little easier on the eye. Now, it"s testing a similar theme for its desktop website.

9to5Google"s Joe Maring spotted the option to switch to "Night mode" in the drop-down user menu on Twitter.com.

None of his colleagues have yet seen that option on the desktop site - and we haven"t seen it yet here at Neowin either - so it seems that Twitter is only availing it to a select few users for now.

The design of the dark theme on Twitter"s desktop site will be immediately familiar to those who use Night mode on its mobile apps, featuring the same deep blue-gray color scheme. There"s no indication yet of when Twitter plans to make it available to all users.

By the way, Neowin also has a dark theme, called "Darkside", which is available to all registered members. If you"re not yet a member, it"s free, quick and easy to sign up.
