Twitter is once again toying with shopping services

Twitter seems to be toying around with the idea of commercial services once again. And this time it looks to be serious.

The social networking company has long had a fascination with the idea of introducing commerce in its social feed. Over time we’ve seen a number of experiments aimed in that direction, but so far the company hasn’t pulled the trigger.

But now it looks like Twitter is getting ready to finally do this. As reported by The Next Web, a number of users have seen a new “payment and shipping” option pop-up in their Android Twitter apps.

For now the option is not clickable but it does point to new services being launched in the near future.

Buying stuff directly on Twitter is obviously something that advertisers could use to great effect, and something that would finally earn the social network some proper money.

Whether we’ll actually see a large-scale implementation of this feature still remains to be seen.
