Twitter Lite for Android arrives in 24 more countries

While not all countries are fortunate enough to have the latest and greatest in LTE networks at their disposal for a reasonable price, many are still making do with older 2G and 3G technologies. While these work perfectly fine, access speeds and network reliability can become an issue, particularly in areas of high contention.

In recognition of these challenges in some parts of the world, Twitter launched Twitter Lite to help people keep up to date with what"s going on in the world in a more data-friendly manner. Now the company is making the app, which is available for Android, available in 24 new countries, expanding from the Philippines launch in September. With this further expansion of the app"s availability, countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America will have access, however, only a handful of countries from each continent are eligible.

The 24 countries that can now download Twitter Lite from the Google Play Store are Algeria, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Egypt, Israel, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Malaysia, Nigeria, Nepal, Panama, Peru, Serbia, El Salvador, South Africa, Thailand, Tunisia, Tanzania, and Venezuela.

Twitter Lite was launched back in April in order to bring decent experience to those with restricted connections; it has the advantage of loading quickly on 2G and 3G networks and offers offline support if you temporarily lose your data connection. Also, it offers a data saving mode so that you only download the pictures and videos you want to see, and boasts an install size of just 3MB so everyone, no matter the space available on their phone, can install it.

Hopefully, Twitter won’t take too long to bring the app to other areas too, it’s fair to say that at least someone in every country gets the short end of the straw whether it be with terrible tariffs or the lack of space someone might have on their aging device.
