Twitter announced today that it has acquired London-based machine learning (ML) firm Fabula AI as part of its effort to help users stay safe on the platform and provide relevant information to them. The startup will be baked into Twitter"s research team that"s responsible for natural language processing, reinforcement learning, ML ethics, recommendation systems, and graph deep learning.
Sandeep Pandey will lead the research group and Twitter says it will take advantage of Fabula"s graph deep learning used to detect network manipulation. In a blog post, Twitter"s Chief Technology Officer Parag Agrawal wrote:
"Specifically, by studying and understanding the Twitter graph, comprised of the millions of Tweets, Retweets and Likes shared on Twitter every day, we will be able to improve the health of the conversation, as well as products including the timeline, recommendations, the explore tab and the onboarding experience."
Initially, Fabula will help the social networking site bolster its efforts to maintain a healthy conversation across the platform and curb the spread of spam and other abusive activities on the service. Last year, Twitter also introduced new tools for behavioral analysis in order to stop disruptive behavior on the site.
