Twitter revamps 'quote tweet' feature; lets you comment in context

Twitter has launched a new feature that finally allows users to quote a tweet without being penalized in the number of characters they can type.

Up until now, quoting a tweet, or RT-ing with comment, was a sort of unofficial feature found only on TweetDeck and some mobile apps, but this functionality never made its way to the web. Not only that but quoting a tweet was pretty much copy+pasting it into your own tweet, leaving very little room for comment or context.

All of that is changing today though, as Twitter has finally revamped this feature, which now allows users to quote tweets with their full context and still have 116 characters for comments. The new version of quote tweet is currently available on the web and in the iOS app, with an update for the Android version coming soon.

Unfortunately embedding doesn’t currently support this feature so you’ll need to click through to Twitter’s site if you’re curious on how the new tweets look. And speaking of the social network, did you know Neowin is on Twitter? You can follow us here and keep up to date with all our coverage.
