Twitter rolls out Spaces to the web with new transcription design and more

Earlier this month, Twitter launched its social audio rooms called Spaces for profiles with more than 600 followers. The new service marked Twitter"s foray into the growing audio chat segment spearheaded by Clubhouse, although it was available only on Android and iOS.

Today, the company announced the rollout of its group audio chat platform on the mobile and desktop web. This means you can now join Spaces from your web browser to listen in, set a reminder to join a scheduled audio chat, and more capabilities that were previously available only on mobile.

The wider availability of Spaces also introduces new improvements for the service. Twitter noted that its listening interface now adapts to the screen size of the device you"re using. You can also test Spaces" new transcription design for the web and the platform"s accessibility has gained improvements as well. That said, it appears you can"t host an audio room yourself for now on the web, unlike on mobile (via The Verge).

Twitter first unveiled Spaces in December of last year for iOS users. In March, the audio chat platform became available in beta on Android, albeit with some limitations like the lack of ability to host your own space. The platform"s recent launch lifted those limitations and its expansion to the web signifies Twitter"s intent to invest in social audio chat over the long term.
