Twitter slows down Fleets rollout due to performance and stability issues

Twitter"s new feature that heavily borrows from Snapchat Stories isn"t arriving for some users for a few more days. The social media company has announced that it is slowing down the rollout of Fleets to address a number of technical issues.

In a tweet, the service disclosed that it"s fixing some performance and stability problems with Fleets. For those who haven"t received the new feature yet, this means they will have to wait a few more days before they can share ephemeral content using the new format.

We’re slowing down the rollout of Fleets to fix some performance and stability problems. If you don’t have the feature yet, you may not get it for a few more days.

We love that so many people are using Fleets and want to ensure we’re providing the best experience for everyone.

Shortly after the feature"s release, Twitter confirmed to TechCrunch that it was hitting a snag for many users. Some have complained that it was lagging and sometimes causing the Twitter app to crash.

Fleets started going live for everyone on November 17, finally embracing a popular content sharing format that allows users to post content that vanishes after 24 hours. Twitter began testing Fleets eight months ago in Brazil.

The ephemeral post appears at the top of the timeline on Twitter"s iOS and Android apps. In order to view Fleets, you’ll need to tap on the users’ avatars. In addition, you can"t retweet, like, or publicly reply to Fleets, unlike regular tweets. To respond to this type of post, you need to react with an emoji or via DMs.
