In an email sent to staff on Tuesday, CEO Twitter Jack Dorsey informed employees that the firm will let them work from home permanently, even after the danger of the coronavirus pandemic recedes. However, some jobs that require physical presence, like server maintenance, will still require workers to come into the offices. A spokesperson for the firm told BuzzFeed News:
“We"ve been very thoughtful in how we"ve approached this from the time we were one of the first companies to move to a work-from-home model. We"ll continue to be, and we"ll continue to put the safety of our people and communities first.”
In March, the firm closed its offices, as the coronavirus began to spread across the United States. Dorsey wrote in the email that the reopening of offices is unlikely before September, and the firm will not have business travels before then, with very few exceptions. There will be no in-person company events through the end of this year. Moreover, the firm increased the allowance for buying work-from-home supplies to $1,000 for all employees.
Similarly, Facebook and Alphabet both announced recently that they will let most employees work from home through the end of 2020.
